First impressions matter.
That's true in real life, and that's true in email marketing.
That's why it is so important to have a welcome sequence in place, and more importantly, making sure the first couple emails are BEYOND great - especially the first one.
It is by far the email that gets the most engagement, and you want to make sure it reflects the true colors of your email list.
The welcome email is the first email of your welcome sequence that is triggered and sent to new subscribers
Let's go over the goals and structure of the anatomically perfect welcome email.
The first and obvious goal is to welcome people aboard your list.
But most welcome emails are boring, and instead of creating a great first impression, they end up in the "oh, this is just another boring newsletter" mind folder of your reader's brain.
We don't want that.
Instead, we want to:
- Cause a good first impression
- Create an identity for your readers that matches your values
- Let them know what they can expect from your emails
- Plant a seed of curiosity in their mind
- Build a relationship
- Increase deliverability
I know what you're thinking "Damn that's a lot" - but worry not, you'll see how easy it is to pull this off.
By any means this is a one-size-fits-all solution. But I believe it is a great starting point for anyone, especially if you're still starting out.
Frameworks are good as a point of reference and to pull things FAST, and that's all - you should always adapt this to your own specific needs.
This one is self-explanatory. You can be witty and playful with this one if that matches your personality, but other than that - keep it straightforward.

2.2. What does this say about you
This is where you integrate readers in your community (shared values, beliefs, pains, and goals) by creating an identity to them.
All you have to do is congratulate them for joining and telling them what you think about that.
Since you made it inside, I want to congratulate you. It means you want to write better emails because you want to deliver better content to your readers, and more importantly, you want to build a better business.
You can optionally follow by telling them how smart that is and give it a brief explanation on why (benefits of knowing
2.3. Short presentation about you to drive authority
"Who in the world is this guy?" - that's the question most new subscribers might ask (depending on how they got inside your list.)
And you want to leverage that internal question and make the most out of it by connecting with them with a short story of you.
You see... For me, email was a necessity. My business was not generating the money I wanted and I needed a way to generate sales and clients on the backend. So I started an email list, and short after I was making daily sales and client leads were flooding in.
2.4. What subscribers can expect
Everyone likes consistency. The best example to demonstrate this is the following:
Imagine you sell a membership for $10 a month and you tell everyone that gets inside you'll NEVER raise prices for those who're inside. But one day you decide to do it. Everyone gets mad because that's not what they expected.
On the other end, someone just got in for $15 and he is alright with that.
Why? Because he didn't expect it to be $10 in the first place.
No one got mad for the $5 increase but rather for the lack of consistency in your words and actions.
Anyways, here's one example:
Unlike others newsletters, I don't email only once a week. You'll hear from me daily, and you can expect a promotion at the end of each email. If that makes you feel bad, this is not for you. However, if you're serious about growing your business, what's better then daily tips?
Alternatively, you can just write a plain "Here's what you can expect:" and follow it with a few bullet points.
2.5. Deliver Your Lead Magnet - If applicable
If you promised a freebie for those who joined your list, this is the time to do it.
A lot of people will do it at the beginning, but keeping it at the end ensures more people will read your email.
Before delivering the lead magnet, make sure to frame it as something valuable.
You don't want people thinking it is not good enough just because it is free.
And you don't want people to not take action or to not read it all because if they never get results from your free products, they'll hardly buy your paid products.

2.6. Call-to-action to reply
I love this one for four reasons:
- You're improving the trust your reader's email inbox provider (Google/Yahoo/etc...) has in you
- You can check if people are reading all the way to the end
- You're given a chance to further build the relationship
- You're training your readers to be responsive
If you received this email, just hit reply with "Got it!", tech can be wicked and I want to make sure this made your inbox safe and sound.

2.7. P.S. to whitelist
Whitelisting is important because it not only improves your deliverability, but it also makes sure your emails ends in your reader's primary box.
You can do that by sayin something along these lines:

Here’s how to do it: For mobile: In the top right corner of the app, hit those 3 dots, tap "Move to" then "Primary" For desktop: Go back, then drag and drop this email into the "Primary" tab. It should be the first on the left. Just like the animation below. If you use Apple Mail - tap on our email address at the top of this email and then "Add to VIPs".
